Details: Willoughby Bridge Greco
The story: This grape is fantastic and I see a huge future for it in Australia. In this example we are chasing a wine that has a distinct minerality but also generousity. Greco is one of the few grapes that can do that.
The essence: This wine is an orange wine, but it still remains delicate and driven with beautiful florals and a salt lick of minerality.I suppose this wine is deliberately dislocating. It is so unexpected.
Details: Rice’s Vineyard Shiraz
The story: For me, Grampians Shiraz is one of the most interesting showcases of the variety in Australia. It is an exceptionally pure style and I enjoy working with it and displaying how this region makes distinct Shiraz in a lighter style.
The essence: This wine is delicate, spiced and herbal. Plum skin and rosemary show on the palate with a touch of classic game meats. It is lighter in style, hence naming it Syrah instead of Shiraz and its powerful bouquet can fill a room.
Heathcote Teroldego from Chalmers Vineyard. Cherry juice and bright red fruits with a chalky tannin structure tying a gentle bow around a filling fruit-driven palate.
Details: Kennedy Vineyard Shiraz
The story: Heathcote is my home region and Shiraz is my home grape. I really love working with Heathcote fruit and I really enjoy making Shiraz. For me there is something really homely about a Heathcote Shiraz on Cambrian greenstone
The essence: This wine is all about it’s soil. The rich, deep and generous Cambrian greenstone of the Camelback ranges transforms Shiraz. It makes wines that are delicate, savoury and chocolatey.
